Raleigh – George Washington Orrell, 86, died peacefully at home on Friday, February 27, after a short illness. Mr. Orrell was born in Raleigh on June 9, 1928. He was the youngest sibling in a family of 10 brothers and sisters born to the late Viola Capps and Edward J. Orrell. He was married to the late Dorothy Poole Orrell for 63 years. He was a HVAC, plumbing and electrical contractor for over 60 years. Mr. Orrell was dedicated to his country, his church and his community. He served his country in the US Navy. He served Milner Memorial Presbyterian Church as an Elder and past Deacon. He was a past Exalted Ruler and lifetime member of Raleigh Elks Lodge #735 where he was once awarded “Elk of the Year.” Mr. Orrell also served in the Wake County Shrine Club, Amran Temple, American Legion and Moose Lodge. Surviving: daughter, Cathy Lentini; grandsons, James Lee Piper, Jr. and Timothy Piper; granddaughter, Ashley Piper; four great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred Jones; brother-in-law, Clarence Poole, sisters-in-law, Betty L. Odham and D. Ann Poole; numerous cherished nieces and nephews; and faithful companion, Joan Barany. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 3, at 1 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road. The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM until 12:45 PM at the funeral home.
