RALEIGH - With God in his heart, George Wilson Mason, 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 1st, 2022 at REX Hospital after a brief illness.
George was born in Winston-Salem’s Baptist Hospital on December 30, 1948.
A man that loved working, George also enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, watching football, and driving fast.
Keeping his heart full and helping others, he provided experience, strength, and hope to hundreds of individuals in recovery and led just as many to the all-loving power of Jesus Christ through his service work at Healing Transitions (The Healing Place of Wake County) and Fuquay Varina Church of Christ. A presence of hope, six days a week, for at least seven hours each day George drove folks, who did not have any transportation, from all around Raleigh to get to, and take their life-saving medication. On the seventh day he drove 70 miles round trip to bring people from a homeless shelter to church.
An inspiration to many he will be missed, but we take solace knowing he is sitting at right hand of the creator basking in the warm, pure loving glow of Jesus Christ.
George is survived by his daughter, Jessica Provinsky; son-in-law, Brett Provinsky; grandchildren, Keeley Motola, Gage Motola, Hank Provinsky, and grandson on the way, Holden. His brother Brewster Mason, sister-in-law Glenda Mason, and niece Christina Mason, and his other brother John Mason. Special family members, Janean Kilgore, Tommy Kilgore, Matthew Kilgore, Jennifer Eakes, and Macy Cash, as well as his extended family at Healing Transitions and Fuquay Varina Church of Christ.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, October 7, 2022, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel in Garner. Burial will follow in Historic Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
