Gerald Davis Bass

Gerald Davis Bass, 77, died Wednesday at Rex Healthcare. Born in Sampson County, he was the son of the late Felton Bass and Annie Mae Westbrook Owens. In 1956, he graduated from Clinton High School and took extension courses at NC State University. He retired with 40 years of service from Dorothea Dix Hospital as a rehab therapist. An avid hunter, golfer and fisherman, he was president of B&W Hunting Club. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Garner. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Linda Watson Bass; daughter, Crystal Weaver (Dwight) of Dunn; son, Randy Bass (Judy) of Willow Spring; sister, Shirley Kennedy of Clinton; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Dale Bass; step-father, Jeff Owens; sister, Carol King and nephew, Danny Kennedy. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1701 Bud Lipscomb Road, Willow Spring, NC 27592.
