Gerald Edward Whitt

RALEIGH - Gerald Edward Whitt, age 82, peacefully passed over into the arms of his Lord and Savior on December 4 at Transitions Hospice. Gerry was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend to many. He was born in Gadsden, Alabama on July 28, 1938 to J. L. Whitt and Flora Belle Butler Whitt. Gerry joined the US Navy at age 17, and served for 20 years in Naval Aviation, CPO Retired. Gerry was an active member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Raleigh. He is survived by his wife, Sally Beane Whitt; children, Deborah Guffey, Denise Lindsey (Eddie), Dana Bradley (Tom),Vanessa Whitt, Brandon Whitt (Amanda), Michael Whitt and Matthew Gardner (Rene);grandchildren, Zane, Emily, Chandler, Jonathan, Branson, Brianna, Michael, Jacob and Eli; great-grandchildren, Barrett, Micajah, Lora Ayven, Emma, Alexis, Lauren Grace, Taylor Claire; brother, James Hamby (Dianne); sister, Gennene Dover (Eric). He was preceded in death by an infant son, Gerald Whitt, Jr, a grandchild, Taylor Grubb and sisters, Helen Stanley, Judy Gibson and Carolyn Wooten and brother, Carlton Hamby. A funeral service will be held 1:00 pm Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Holy Trinity Anglican Church. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
