Gerald Gray Bridges

Mr. Gerald Gray Bridges “Wormy”,85, of Smithfield passed away Sunday, December 4, 2022.

Gerald was born January 8, 1937, in Wake County son of the late William Lawson and

Bertie Carter Bridges.

Gerald was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Carolyn Bridges, and brother

Richard Bridges.

Gerald was a friend to all, he loved visits from everyone, whether it was to stop by and chat

or to get some time in his shop and his help to work on a project. He was an amazing

carpenter and shared his skill set and knowledge with his son, Kevin. They were able to

work together many years prior to Gerald retiring. In 2005, Gerald retired and stayed home

to help Carolyn spoil their granddaughter, Julia. Where he took on the duties of daycare,

preschool, playground director and chauffeur. By far his best days were catering to his “lil

stinker.”

Gerald is survived by his son Kevin Bridges and wife Kelly of Smithfield; his granddaughter

Julia Bridges of Smithfield; brother, Aubrey Bridges of Dunn; sisters, Frieda Deans of

Raleigh, Betty Mae Stancil of Garner, and Jane Bridges of Raleigh.

At Gerald’s request there will be no memorial service. In Lieu of flowers the family ask you to

consider making Christmas extra special to a child in need this year.
