Geri Charles Mangum

Geri Charles Mangum, 75, of Garner NC, passed away suddenly on December 16, 2022 at UNC-Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

He was born in Harnett County to Dossy and Dorothy Mangum and grew up in Angier NC. Geri retired from NCDA Rollins Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory with 33 years full-time and 10 years parttime service. He was a member of Longview Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and on various committees. His greatest joy was serving on the outdoor drama “The Gift” at Christmas. Geri spent many years of service with Boy Scout Pack and Troop 397 and Venture Crew in Garner. He also served on the BSA Occoneechee Council. He loved camping and Dutch oven cooking and cherished time spent camping with his sons and grandsons. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed sharing his wood crafts with others, especially with his extended family, Bonnie Goad. He loved beach music and spent many hours listening and shagging to the beach beat. Geri loved family, family vacations, his “Fur Baby” Gracie, time spent with the Tuesday “Movie Gang”, and his Angier High School Class of ’65 classmates. He lived life well.

Geri is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sandra, his sons Cameron Mangum and Michael Mangum (Melissa), and his grandsons Mason and Matthew. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Stephen Davis and Jim Burnett, many cousins, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Maurice and Larry Mangum.

A memorial service will be held at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home Chapel, Garner NC, on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 3:00 pm. Visitation will be held at from 2:00 pm to 2:45 pm prior to the service. Interment will be held at a later date at Harnett Memorial Park, Lillington. Cemetery in Lillington NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Longview Baptist Church Building Fund, Carolina Boxer Rescue, or the charity of your choice.
