ANGIER– Gertrude Emma Heidhausen, 90, passed away on Sunday night, 4 December, surrounded by family and her beloved Lucky dog at her home. Born in Teplitz-Shoenau, Czech Republic, she was the daughter of the late Franz and Elsa Schnürl. She was married to Erich Heidhausen for 54 adventure-filled years, until his death in 2007. Gert’s strength of spirit was evident in her ability to connect with others and share her incredible life story; every person in the world was just a friend she hadn’t yet met. She found great joy in animals, flowers, sunshine, opera, and foreign cultures, and inspired those around her in her quest to never stop learning. Her open mind and keen sense of humor was a gift to everyone that knew her.
Gert is survived by her daughter, Ines Heidhausen Stubbs of Southport; son, Eric “Bud” Heidhausen (Carol Balfe Heidhausen) of Woodbine, MD; grandchildren, Campbell “Cal” Lawrence Stubbs IV, (Lindsay Hall Stubbs) of Fuquay-Varina, Merrill Emma Stubbs of Herndon, VA, Jacqueline Hawkins Stubbs of Riverdale Park, MD, Jillian Hoyt Stubbs of Chesapeake, VA, Laura Heidhausen Doran (Kevin Doran) of Crownsville, MD, and Eric Balfe Heidhausen (Katarina Zaliva Heidhausen) of Hammonton, NJ; great-grandchildren, Leo, John, Elizabeth, Evelyn and Owen.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the SPCA of Wake County (www.spcawake.org) or Four Oaks Church of God (www.fouroakschurchofgod.com) in Gert’s memory.
