Gilmore Ward Johnson

GARNER - Gilmore Ward Johnson, 98, died peacefully in his sleep at The Laurels of Forest Glenn nursing home in Garner. Gilmore was a native of Harnett County, but spent most of his life in the Garner area. Gilmore retired from the State of North Carolina in the college system as an Admissions coordinator for Veterans. During his career, Gilmore received an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Education. Gilmore had two hobbies, playing golf and growing roses and giving them away to friends. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday June 12, 2013, at Aversboro Road Baptist Church. Gilmore was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee Chappell Johnson. Gilmore is survived by a son; Randall Johnson; daughter, Mary Elaine Wall; sister, Excelle Sloan; grandchildren, Dawn Brown and Dean Wall.
