RALEIGH – Glenn Haywood Simpkins, 79, passed away Wednesday. Funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm on Monday, February 12, 2018 in the Gymnasium at Catawba Springs Christian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm – 2:30 pm in the Gymnasium prior to the service. Glenn was born in Wake County on January 5, 1939 to the late Oscar and Alice Simpkins. Along with his brother, Talmadge, Glenn was the co-owner and operator of Wake County Speedway for many years prior to his retirement. In addition, Glenn was a faithful member of Catawba Springs Christian Church. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Matthews Simpkins; daughter, Bonnie Jean Simpkins and husband, Bryant S. Carter; granddaughters, Sarah A. Simpkins, Hannah I. Lawrence; great grandson, Cylus; brother, Talmadge O. Simpkins of Raleigh; niece, Deborah Simpkins McDonald and husband, Graham; nephew, Curtis D. Simpkins and wife, Leslie; and a host of extended family and friends.
