Glennie Matthews

Glennie Adams Matthews, age 91, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, April 4, 2025 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 22, 1933 in Harnett County, NC to the late Victor and Lina Adams.

She is survived by her sons, Gary Matthews and his wife, Kim and Rick Matthews; her grandchildren, Brett Matthews and his wife, Amanda and Blake Matthews; her great-granddaughter, Blakely; and her sisters, Melba Butler and Barbara Matheny.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Richard Matthews; her daughter-in-law, Sylvia Matthews; her grandson, Zach Matthews; her sister, Annie Lee Edwards; and her brothers, Bo Adams and Carlie Adams.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who adored all of her family. Glennie loved the days when she could go out and watch her grandson, Brett, play baseball, or she would get the chance to listen to her grandson, Blake, play the guitar and sing for her. It was nothing to find Glennie spending time with her family at White Lake or going to the beach with her mother and sisters. She was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she loved to spend time with her lifelong friends, especially Golda Weathers.

Her visitation will be held Wednesday, April 9, 2025 from 10:30 to 11:15 am in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 10005 Lake Wheeler Road, Fuquay-Varina, NC.

Her funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at 11:30 am in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flower, the family ask that memorial contributions be made to the cemetery fund of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 10005 Lake Wheeler Road, Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.
