Gordon Franklin Sartin, of Angier, NC passed away peacefully after a short-lived illness, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, August 11, 2021. He was born on November 17, 1940 in Angier, NC to his parents John Franklin and Snowdon Gardner Sartin. He played football at Angier High School and was a school bus driver. In his 80 years here on earth, he made it his mission to serve others. He served in the US Air Force, stationed in Myrtle Beach, SC from 1959 to 1965. After being honorably discharged from the military, he, his beloved wife, and cherished daughter moved home to Angier, NC where he worked as a machinist at Westinghouse/ABB. While working at Westinghouse he went through an Apprenticeship Program and graduated from the Tool and Die Program. During his retirement he loved spending time with his grandson, Daniel. His favorite names to be called were “Daddy” and “Papa”. As such, he was a devout family-man who treasured family gatherings. Gordan was an avid outdoorsman and history enthusiast. He was a wonderful storyteller who knew no stranger, likely spawned from his love of reading. He could always be found sharing these passions with others. He served on the board of directors for both the Angier Black River Rescue Squad and the Western Medical Group. He was also a member of the American Legion 109 of Benson, NC. In his eighty years he blessed many lives and will be greatly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Franklin and Snowdon Gardner Sartin of Angier, NC; brother Malcolm Sartin of Ohio; and his cousin, Diane Mathison of Holly Springs, NC. He is survived by his wife and high-school sweetheart of 61 years, Mary Lois Sartin; daughter Tracy Perry (Ricky) of Angier, NC; grandson Daniel Perry (Kellan) of Cary, NC; brother Marvin Sartin (Sandra) of Aurora, NC; and sister Agatha Stephenson of Coats, NC; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at 3pm on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Angier Baptist Church. There will be a meet and greet with family from 2:00-2:45pm prior to the service. The burial will follow directly after the service at the Angier Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations sent to the perpetual care of the Angier Memorial Cemetery, Angier Cemetery Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1348 Angier, NC 27501, or to the Angier Public Library in Gordon’s honor.
