Gordon L. Matthews

ANGIER- Gordon Lockhart Matthews, 91, passed away at his home on Sunday. A lifelong resident of Harnett Co., he was the son of the late Sam and Helen Stephenson Matthews. A graduate of Angier High School, he was a WWII US Navy veteran. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Angier Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens with military honors. Surviving are his sons, Danny Matthews (Debbie) of Willow Spring; Kenny Matthews of Angier; Tommy Matthews (Cathy) of Clayton; daughter, Susan M. Harpe; sister, Mattie Agnes Price of Angier; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Annie Mae Matthews, brothers, Wray, Mitchiner and Marvin Matthews.
