RALEIGH - Gordon Linwood Jones, 80, passed away suddenly on April 11, 2011 while at home with the one woman he had loved and cherished for over 63 years at his side. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Peggy Fowler Jones, and his only daughter, Joy Neta Jones. He is also survived by a brother, Bernard Jones and his wife, Nellie Rose and a sister, Maria Harvell.Gordon was the son of the late Hubert Y. Jones and Nina B. Jones of Fuquay-Varina, NC. He was also a brother to the late Phillip Jones, Doris Callis, Yates Jones, Eugene Jones, Jamie Jones, and Mittie Callis of Wake County. He was a member of fellowship Baptist Church since 1959 and will be missed by all of those who loved him and the many who enjoyed his smile and at times, outrageous sense of humor and jokes. He believed in hard work and providing the best for his family. He began work at the FCX in his teens and left for military service and returned to work for FCX for over 20 years. He was an independent route owner for Pepperidge Farms for 23 years until his retirement from the company. He then began his 3rd career working for Red Star Oil almost 15 years until he finally retired from that service 2 years ago.Viewing and family visitation will be held at Fellowship Baptist Church on Saturday, April 16, 2011 from 1:00 to 1:45 with services immediately following the visitation. The reverends Mark Palmer, Bob Coats, and Talmadge Infinger will be officiating. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park with the Reverend George Whitman presiding at the graveside service.
