Guy Maurice Carter passed away at his home in Willow Spring, NC on Sunday, August 14, 2016. He was born to Ralph and Louise Carter in Pittsburgh, PA in 1953 but later moved to Newark, DE and graduated from Newark High School in 1971. Guy took computer and management courses and spent his professional career in the service industry. As a young man, Guy was a very talented athlete and excelled at football, basketball, and baseball. Guy also loved spending time with his uncle Gabe. He met the love of his life Yvonne in 1978. He relocated from Delaware to Maryland and married Yvonne in 1981 and together they raised a son, Lawrence. Basketball remained his passion later in life and he was an avid fan of the Lakers. He shared his love of sports with his family and taught his son how to play baseball, which grew into a favorite activity. Many summer vacations were spent enjoying time with family in Smithfield, Virginia and sharing good food and stories (as well as competing in fierce pool competitions in the basement). He was always very interested to hear the latest happenings in the lives of the younger members of his family and to listen to anything they had to say. Any time a friend, neighbor, or family member needed help, Guy was there to lend whatever assistance he could. He also enjoyed collecting, drawing, reading, baking, listening to music, and watching movies. He remained connected with many friends and family members through Facebook and loved sharing stories and jokes. Guy was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Louise and sister Trina and is survived by his wife Yvonne, son Lawrence (Amy), grand-dog Daisy, sisters Donna (Victor), Marsha, and Tracy, half-brother Roderick (Maura), nieces Kim (Greg) and Kendra, nephews Marcus (Tanya), Brian (Sara), and Tony, and several other relatives. His generosity and wit will be missed by all. Crossing the Bar Alfred, Lord Tennyson Sunset and evening star, And one clear call for me! And may there be no moaning of the bar, When I put out to sea, But such a tide as moving seems asleep, Too full for sound and foam, When that which drew from out the boundless deep Turns again home. Twilight and evening bell, And after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell, When I embark; For tho from out our bourne of Time and Place The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have crost the bar. Acknowledgement The family wishes to express sincere thanks for all the kind thoughts and support provided by friends and neighbors during this difficult time.
