H. Jacqueline Hicks passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her parents H.I. Hicks and Bessie Griffin; stepparents Edward Griffin and Louise Hicks; sister Shirley Eberhard; half-brothers Cary and Tommy Hicks; son-in-law Kenneth Lessard; and former husband Royster Baker. Jacqueline is survived by her children: Janet Lessard, Emily Currin (Richard), and Jennifer Stephenson (Kenneth); grandchildren Eva Smith (Casey), Ruth Holcomb (Ray), Melanie Lessard (Ashley), and Kevin Stephenson; great grandchildren Carson and Nate Smith, Baker and Grant Holcomb, Gavin and Grayson Everington; half-brothers Harvey Hicks (Joanna) and David Hicks (Kathy); and half-sister Marcia Alford (Jeff). The family appreciates the home care provided by Melissa Teeter and Pam Betts. Jacqueline was a good Christian lady who was very social and fun-loving, who grew up in Garner. She loved to travel and visited many countries and much of the U.S. She frequently hosted international students and families. Jacqueline was also active in and served in several capacities in her community and church. Singles Unlimited and NC State Extension were two of her favorite activities. She taught Sunday School for many years. Her visiting church ladies were a big part of her later life. But the love of her earthly life was her family and their friends. She was best known as Granny. Granny was very independent and self-sufficient. On Sat., June 12th , a visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. and the service will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church, 1701 Bud Lipscomb Rd., Willow Spring, NC with burial at Willow Spring Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church.
