Harold Fleming Godwin, age 83, passed away Monday evening at WakeMed in Raleigh, NC surrounded by his loving family.
Harold was born on January 6, 1942, in Johnston County to Howard and Geneva Godwin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, (Billy Godwin); his sister, (Gail Godwin Pleasant); and his infant sister.
Harold is survived by his wife, Sue, of 63 years; his son, Gary; his son, Tim (Rhonda); grandchildren, Krystal and Brooke; and several nieces and nephews.
Harold was known for always working hard. He drove trucks for many years with EPES. In the 1970s, he became a state licensed heating and air conditioning contractor and opened his own successful business, Godwin Service Company. In his later years, Harold turned his love of traveling into another successful venture and started his charter bus company, Caravan Coaches. All these endeavors allowed Harold and Sue to travel all over the world seeing most states in the US as well as multiple countries abroad in Europe, Africa, and Asia. Out of all the places he has seen, his absolute favorite place to visit was Walt Disney World. His love of Disney was evident throughout his home and shop with his extensive memorabilia collection and his Mickey Mouse tattoo.
Harold enjoyed his retirement years with various hobbies and interests. He purchased the farm behind his shop and enjoyed tinkering on his collection of antique tractors while maintaining his multiple acre garden each year. When he wasn't gardening, he was always cooking up a feast in the kitchen and sharing with everyone. Harold's generosity was immeasurable. He would help anyone in need no matter what the circumstances. He never met a stranger, and he would pick and carry on with the wonderful, and witty, sense of humor that he possessed.
Harold made a lasting impression on everyone he met and was loved by so many. His memory and legacy will continue to be remembered and treasured by the many lives that he touched. He lived a full and blessed life of 83 years, and our hearts ache at the loss of a great husband, father, granddaddy, and friend. He will be terribly missed by us all.
