Harold Glenn Bagwell

November 21, 1940 — February 28, 2024

GARNER–Harold Glenn Bagwell, 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. Born in Rocky Mount, he was the son of the late Horice and Louise Poole Bagwell.

Harold is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ann Hobby Bagwell; daughter, Elizabeth Bagwell Cole and husband, Greg of Garner; sons, Harold Glenn Bagwell, Jr. and wife, Cindy of Garner, Kenneth Bagwell and wife, Sharon of Raleigh; grandchildren, Lane and Connor Cole, Trey and Reagan Bagwell, and Ashlyn Bagwell; sisters, Betty Mitchell of Clayton, Diane Brown and husband, Donnie of Raleigh; brothers, Al Bagwell and wife, Debbie of Richmond, VA, Robert Bagwell and wife, Connie of Franklinton.

In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Bagwell.

Harold graduated from Garner High School in 1958. He attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Illinois. Upon graduation, Harold began working for Crenshaw TV & Appliance and ultimately purchased the business. He also founded Crenshaw Communications and A&B Electronics, which he later sold to Audiovox Corporation. Harold continued working with Audiovox as a District President until retirement. While working in the electronics business, Harold began purchasing and developing commercial real estate.

After God and family, Harold’s greatest love was flying. He began flying in a Piper J-3 Cub in 1966 and flew many different airplanes throughout his life. One of Harold’s greatest joys was flying stunts in a Cristen Eagle, and he traveled to countless destinations in his beloved Cessna T210 and Citations. In later years, he and Ann developed a love for golf. They eventually played in all 50 states, with Harold flying them to every state except Hawaii.

Harold became a member of First Presbyterian Church of Garner in 1971, where he served continually and faithfully until his health declined. Harold received the Man of the Year Award in 2004, and with Ann, received the Older Adult Award from the New Hope Presbytery in 2023.

A longtime Garner resident, Harold’s favorite place was his cherished cattle farm. He could be found most evenings relaxing on the back deck overlooking the lake, his devoted German Shepherd at his feet and his loving wife by his side, watching the sunset – often joined by his family and friends, who will greatly miss him.

The family would especially like to thank Drew and Judy Gupton, for his devotion and friendship and caregivers Pam Holloway, Hollie Queen and her husband, Al, who were an invaluable help to the family during Harold’s illness.
