Garner- The Hales family is saddened, but certain of a joyous reunion in Heaven when our father, Harry Bell “Billy” Hales, left us Monday evening to join his beloved Vivian. We will miss his soft chuckle when he recalled fond memories of things he loved mosthis family, his church, music, woodworking and being on the water. Any description of Billy would have to include the words “dedicated” and “devoted.” He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and a faithful and dedicated member of his church, Fellowship Baptist. Billy contributed his many talents to Fellowship from building projects small and large to singing bass in the choir. He was a devoted American, proudly serving his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Wisconsin during World War II. He was a dedicated craftsman who created beautiful things with wood, and a devoted waterman who derived great pleasure from holding a fishing pole. He was a dedicated friend to many, both young and old, and enjoyed sharing good conversation, a lively tune on his harmonica, and good country cookin’. Billy is survived by his children, Jim Hales (Janet), Ray Hales (Trudy), and Ginger Duncan (Darryl); his grandchildren, Lisa Brogdon (Steve), Wendy Raynor (David), Jimmy Hales (Robynn), Rachel Roberson (Jacob), and Harrison Duncan; his great grandchildren, Alyssa, Austin, Corbin, Kaleb, Piper, Ansley and Addison Belle. Billy had an uncanny ability to whistle bird songs. As spring arrives, we will be listening for frequent reminders of his loving spirit, and taking comfort in wonderful memories. Services will be held on Friday, February 22 at Fellowship Baptist Church, 5029 Old Stage Road, Raleigh. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. The burial will follow the service at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh.
