Harry Winders, 82, passed away on Thursday at his home surrounded by his loving family. A native of Edgecombe County he was the son of the late James A. and Evelyn Vail Winders. Mr. Winders was a retired veteran of the US Army and was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. He was a member of Angier Fellowship Church, formally known as Saint’s Delight. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 PM at Angier Fellowship Church on Tippett Road. Burial will take place on Thursday at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 PM. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Frances James Winders, children, James “Jim” H. Winders and wife, Martha; Jerry R. Winders and wife, Myra; Richard, “Ricky” A. Winders and wife Deidra; grandchildren, Joel Winders (Meredith), Rob Winders (Crystal), Michael Winders (fiancee’Marion), Josh Winders (Jamie), Katie Winders (boyfriend, Chris), Crystal Strickland (Johnathan) Cheyanne Winders; great-grandchildren, Levi Winders, Andrew Winders, Katelyn Winders, Jacob Winders, Gracelynn Winders, Carson Winders, Johnathan Strickland, Jr., Bradley Strickland, Kevin Strickland; brother, Herman Winders of Sacramento, CA; sister, Nyoka Griffin of Gastonia, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, James “Junior” Winders, Alton Winders and Earl “Billy” Winders; sister, Dorothy Huffman and grandson, Rick Winders. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30-1:30 PM at the church.
