ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. - While listening to scripture readings, Christian music, and prayers in the presence of God on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, VA, Brother Harvey Lewis Beasley Sr., age 73, departed this earthly life calmly and peacefully. His wife, niece who is a family nurse, and the nurse team, were all by his bedside. Brother Harvey Lewis Beasley, son of the late Eddie McCoy and Rosa Beatrice Watson Beasley was born on April 18, 1947 in Colerain, NC, Bertie County. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Willie “Beatrice” Beasley; his son, Harvey Lewis Beasley Jr. and his wife, Chika Harada; his son, Hilbert Lawrence Beasley; his granddaughter, Sana Beasley, his grandson, Kei Lewis Beasley; three devoted siblings, Eddie McCoy Beasley, Jr. of Powellsville, NC, Patricia Ann Beasley of Alexandria, VA, and Katrenia Beasley Bryant (Dr. Bennie) of Winterville, NC. Brother Harvey Beasley accepted Christ at an early age and united with New Bethany Baptist Church, Harrellsville, North Carolina, Pastor C.M. Creecy. He was a devoted member and served God using his spiritual gifts at several other churches during his job relocations: Grace Baptist Church, Markham, Illinois, Robert J. Patten, Pastor; Wake Chapel Baptist Church, Raleigh, NC, Rev. G.A. Jones, Jr. Pastor; Corinthian Baptist Church, Des Moines, Iowa, Rev. Frederick Strickland, Rev. C.L.Stallworth, Pastors. After relocating to Elizabeth City, NC, Brother Harvey Lewis Beasley united with Corner Stone Missionary Baptist Church, Dr. Walter L. Smith Jr. and Rev. Antonio M. Williams, pastors. Brother Harvey Lewis Beasley attended C.G. White High School. After graduating, he joined the U.S. Air Force. He then enrolled in St. Augustine’s College and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and an MBA from North Carolina Central University. He was employed with Amoco Oil Company in Raleigh, North Carolina. While employed with Amoco Oil Company, he lived in Raleigh, NC, Hazel Crest, Illinois, and Clive, Iowa. After retiring from Amoco Oil Company, Brother Harvey Beasley moved to Elizabeth City, NC. He also taught business courses as an adjunct instructor at the college level for 30 years. He taught in multiple institutions, including: Shaw University and Wake Tech in Raleigh, NC, Joliet Correctional Center in Illinois; Grandview Community College in Des Moines, Iowa; Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, NC. His service to the community is also highlighted by his time served as a School Board Member for the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank School System, and a member of the Board of Directors for The North Carolina School Board Association. Brother Harvey Beasley served part time in the National Guard and Army Reserve. He enjoyed fishing. He was always cheerful and easy going, cracking jokes to bring smiles to the faces of those around him. He lived a lifestyle of peace, minding his own business and earning his own living. Brother Harvey Beasley was an accomplished educator, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. During his military career, he served four years in Vietnam during the Vietnam War, and received his honorable discharge after obtaining the rank of Sergeant. In addition to his basic training, Sgt. Beasley received education and training from Ft. Lee Military Food Services School in Petersburg, VA. Having been employed in the Military Police and with Food Services during his time in the Air Force, Sgt. Beasley worked an additional four years in Food Services while in university in Raleigh at the College Inn Restaurant. As a fitting tribute to his honorable service, Sgt. Beasley will be laid to rest in the Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC, surrounded by his fellow servicemen and servicewomen. Military Honors will be rendered by the Seymour-Johnson Air Force Base Honor Guard of Goldsboro, NC. The graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 29, 2021, at Salisbury National Cemetery. The funeral will be live-streamed, and may be viewed by clicking on "Watch Event" under the 'Events' tab of this online obituary. The family will gather for a private viewing on Sunday, March 29, 2021 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Raleigh.
