Hazel Simpkins Hatcher died peacefully in her home on Saturday, December 30, 2017.  She was born on January 18, 1930 to the late Walter Emmette Simpkins and Alma Gulley Simpkins. Hazel is survived by 3 daughters: Betty Miller (Phil), Amy Hatcher (Stan Maidon) and Denise Ammons (Craig); 4 grandchildren: Taylor Metz (Cade), Preston Waldo (Blair), Sara Parker and Ben Ammons; and 8 great grandchildren; and siblings Hilda Pendergraft, Susan Lassiter and Walter E. As a young adult, she was active in 4H, and was honored to be chosen as a delegate to the Chicago convention. After graduating from Garner High School, she earned a business degree from Campbell College. During the early years of her marriage, Hazel worked for the Wake County Extension Service. Later, she worked as an administrative assistant  with the  NC Division of Facility Services. She was involved in the Brentwood Community Extension/Homemakers Club, the Greyhound Retirees Group and TOPS. Other passions were spending time with family, gardening, sewing and volunteer work. She was known for reaching out to others in need. Family and friends were drawn to her because of her generosity and loving heart. Her faithful caring of others is an inspiration to us all. We would like to thank all those who have supported and cared for our mother throughout her life Memorials may be made to Transitions LifeCare or to the charity of your choice.
