Henrietta Ragland Badham, January 21, 1925 - April 4, 2014. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, the older daughter of Edmond Urquhart Ragland and Mary Ellen Marshall Ragland, Henny, as she was affectionately known, moved to Raleigh at an early age and attended Christ Church and later served on the Alter Guild. She attended Peace College, Saint Marys School and graduated from Ashley Hall in Charleston, South Carolina. After Ashley Hall, she attended Marjorie Websters business school program for ladies in Washington, D. C. When she completed her course in Washington, she returned to Raleigh and was employed by The Raleigh Community Chess, where she worked until her marriage to her husband of 66 years, Richard Paxton Badham. After their marriage, they moved to Chapel Hill where they lived until his graduation in 1948. In 1950 her husband left his job with Wilson Tobacco Company and joined Superior Stone Company. Though the company was based in Raleigh, the job took Henny and Dick to Greenville, NC where they made many friends and lived for ten years. They moved back to Raleigh afterward where she has lived until the present time. During her time in Raleigh she was a member of several social clubs, including the Carolina Country Club. She was also a member of the Colonial Dames of America and was the ladies Chairman of the Terpsichorean Ball in 1985. In her youth she was an avid tennis and ping pong player and a beginner golfer. She loved to work in her yard and garden, and every house in which she lived always was stocked with vibrant plant life. She also was an enthusiastic artist and spent many hours on her oil-on-canvas works in her basement studio. Bridge became her avocation in later years, as she enjoyed playing with her friends. She spent many winters in Florida and summers at Atlantic Beach and thereafter in Linville. She had many friends everywhere she lived. She is survived by her husband Dick, two sons, Richard Paxton Badham, Jr. and wife Lucile Jones Badham and Edmond Ragland Badham, both of Raleigh, two grandsons, Richard Paxton Badham III and wife Jennifer of Charlotte and David Jones Badham of New York, and a sister, Mary Marshall Ragland Coxe and husband Tommy of Darlington, S. C. The family would like to offer special thanks to the compassionate care-givers at The Cypress of Raleigh, Rex Hospital and the Dunlap Hospice Care Center and especially to Katherine Corbitt, their long-time home care giver who loves them both like family. There will be a visitation at the Parrish Hall at Christ Episcopal Church from noon until 1:30 on Tuesday, April 8th, and a memorial service in the Church afterwards at 2:00. A private burial ceremony will follow for the family at Oakwood Cemetery. The family requests that any memorial on her behalf be sent to Christ Church
