RALEIGH – Henry Horace “Pete” Sowell, Jr., 86, entered eternal rest with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in the early morning hours of Monday, August 30, 2021. Pete was born in Bullock County, Georgia on July 25, 1935, to the late Henry Sowell, Sr. and Eliza Jane (Leavens) Sowell. Pete honorably served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard. His service to his country was only surpassed by his service to the Lord and his family. Pete loved the Lord and lived a life of active Christian service in his local community over the years. He was a kind and caring husband, father, and friend. He would want all to know the saving Grace and infinite Mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ. In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his sister, Ouida Ruth Taft; and brother, Billy Dan Sowell. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 years, Ann B. Sowell; daughters, Amy S. Niewoehner and husband, Chris, Jenne Ann Walker; grandchildren: Christopher Todd Walker, Emily Jane Niewoehner, and Laura Ann Niewoehner; sister, Mary Sue Scofield and husband, Jack; many beloved nieces and nephews and many brothers and sisters in Christ including Ebenezer Community Baptist Church. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 2, 2021 in the Ebenezer Community Baptist Church Cemetery, Raleigh. Dr. Ed Moore will officiate. Guests are recommended to bring a folding chair, if needed, to keep with social distancing guidelines. The family also respectfully requests all attendees to wear a face mask to ensure the health of Pete’s family. Flowers are welcome, or in lieu, memorial contributions may be made in Pete’s memory to Ebenezer Community Baptist Church: 7808 Ebenezer Church Road, Raleigh, NC 27612.
