On Sunday morning, March 6, 2016, Henry “Lane” Miller passed away unexpectedly at home at the age of 62. His family is taking comfort in that he was not in pain and is now home with the Lord. Lane was a native of Raleigh growing up in the Mordecai neighborhood participating in many sporting and recreational activities and championships with his childhood friends and neighbors. Lane attended William G. Enloe High School for the first few years of high school. He then attended and graduated from Frederick Military Academy in Portsmouth, VA where he was promoted to the rank of Officer. Lane valued his time spent there and the friendships that he gained. At an early age Lane began working with his father’s beloved company, Oscar Miller Contractor, Inc. He loyally worked at his father’s side until taking over management responsibilities along with his brother in later years. Lane was an integral part of the transition when Oscar Miller Contractor, Inc. became the Raleigh location for Barnhill Contracting Company, even staying with Barnhill as a manager for several years. Lane found a new career in Fleet and Commercial Vehicle Sales at Sir Walter Chevrolet in Raleigh where he rose to be the department manager. Lane later went to take on the role of Fleet and Commercial Sales Manager at Smithfield Chevrolet and stayed on to reprise that role when Deacon Jones Auto Group purchased the dealership. During his career in Fleet and Commercial Sales, Lane achieved many professional goals and received recognition for his leadership in the business. Lane was a member of several boards including the General Motors National Truck Club and took part in creating the structure by which GM Fleet and Commercial Dealers operate today. Lane never viewed himself as a salesman, but as a friend establishing relationships to help other’s businesses thrive. Lane always felt his customers were a priority which gained the respect of many. Lane was a lifetime member of Temple Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC where he served in many capacities being blessed most recently by leading the worship music. Lane loved his church and was grateful for the opportunity to use his talents to further the glory of God. Lane also used his God given talent of acting, participating in many productions at Raleigh’s Theatre in the Park. Some of his fondest memories were being cast in A Christmas Carol and serving as President on the Board of Directors for the theatre. Lane was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar F. Miller, Sr. and Juanita Coleson Miller. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Deborah Martin Miller, son Casey Lane Miller, daughter Amy Joyce Miller and three beautiful grandchildren who lovingly called him “Pa Pa”. He is also survived by his sister Dee Collins, brother Oscar F. Miller, Jr. (Linda), nieces, nephews and many cousins.
