Herbert Gale Clark

RALEIGH - Herbert Gale Clark, 85, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 4, 2025, surrounded by his family at home.

He was born in Wake County on September 1, 1939, the son of the late George Morris Clark and Mary Johnson Clark.

Herbert retired from the Wake County School System at 62 years old, where he managed all printing operations for the schools. Herbert served his beloved country in the N.C. Army National Guard for 6 years. His passion for North Carolina State University sports led him to a part time job for the university, as an Usher at a variety of sporting events which he happily enjoyed for 30 years specifically at Reynolds Coliseum and Carter Finley Stadium. This was truly not a job for Herbert, he had a love for N.C. State sports, socializing with his colleagues, and with the patrons alike. Additionally, he served the church community as Deacon and Head Usher as well as working on Baptist Men Projects at Longview Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Warren, Wallace, and Bobby.

Herbert is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth L. Clark; daughter, Lori Scott and husband, Lee of Raleigh; granddaughter, Abigail Scott of Raleigh; sisters-in-law, Bet Clark, Louise Clark, and Janice Dean; and his canine companion and grand-dog, Duke.

Funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Longview Baptist Church in Raleigh. Visitation will be held from 10:30 AM - 11:15 AM at the church prior to the service. Interment will take place in Historic Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh.
