Hilda Corwin Edwards

Garner - Hilda Corwin Edwards, 92, passed away in her home in Fuquay-Varina, NC, on April 17, 2015. Hilda was the daughter of the late Walter and Hilda Corwin of Ahoskie, NC. She attended Ahoskie High School, Louisburg College, and Woman’s College (now UNCG) to become a teacher for 35 years, ending her career at East Garner Middle School in Garner, NC. Hilda’s greatest accomplishment was raising her children and seeing all of her grandchildren graduate from high school and college. She was a great storyteller, never leaving out a detail, and had a sharp mind and sense of humor until the end. Hilda was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Eugene Simpson Edwards, Jr. of Raleigh, NC. She is survived by her four children, Eugene S. Edwards, III, and wife Madelyn of Asheville, NC; Dr. William H. Edwards and wife Susan of Norwich, VT; Hilda Edwards Allen and husband Don of High Point, NC; and Dr. Margaret Edwards Meyer-Cuno and husband Doug of Lake Wylie, SC. Hilda was cherished by her nine grandchildren and four great-grandsons, Christopher Edwards and wife Kristine and sons Griffin and Gray of Raleigh, NC; Anna Edwards Gay and husband Sean and sons Cooper and Max of Charlotte, NC; Lee Edwards of Asheville, NC; Dr. Sarah Edwards Sprouse and husband Jake of Seattle, WA; Caroline Edwards of Newport, RI; Emily Allen Poole and husband Chris of Raleigh, NC; Brian Allen of Melbourne, FL; Andrew Powell, IV of Monroe, NC; Ashley Powell of Raleigh, NC. Hilda is also survived by her brother, W. Horton Corwin and wife Mary Loraine of Chattanooga, TN, along with many loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Garner on Friday. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Saint Andrews UMC in Raleigh.
