Raleigh - Hilda DeMent Perkins, a resident of Raleigh, passed away on November 19, 2012 at the age of 85. Born in Vance County in 1927 as one of 12 children, she was predeceased by her parents Peter Douglas DeMent and Myrtle Blair Weldon, by her husband, John Thaddeus Perkins, and her oldest daughter, Deborah Perkins Pruett. Hilda passed away after a long and brave battle with cancer. She is survived by three daughters, Evelyn OConnor (Michael Sr.) of New Bern, NC; Melissa Caudle (Larry) of Homestead, FL; and Jonny Sue Perkins-Snyder (Don) of Tucson, AZ; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister Anne Holland of Scituate, MA and beloved companion Robert Owens of Raleigh. Hilda worked for the NC Department of Revenue for many years during tax season. She loved working in her yard and took great pride in her azaleas, amaryllis, and hydrangeas. Her biscuits were legendary and she took pleasure in baking them with her grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Wake County, especially Polly, Patti, Dale, Maribel and Michelle for their dedicated and caring service. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 21, 2012, from 1:00 - 2:00 pm, with a Funeral Service at 2:00 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Montlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh. She will be missed by family and friends.
