GARNER- Hilda Pearline Strickland Wood died peacefully March 9, 2018 at the age of 95. She was born October 30, 1922, the ninth of 13 children of Ransom Bennett ‘Bud’ Strickland and Ida West Strickland. She married Calvin Coolidge Wood in 1943 and they were married 64 years at the time of his death in 2007. Hilda devoted herself to being a wife and mother, working part-time in the Piece Goods Department at Belk’s in downtown Raleigh so she could be home when ‘the boys’ came home from school. Later she worked seasonally at the Department of Motor Vehicles and the North Carolina Revenue Department. She enjoyed sharing the fact that when she attended school in Four Oaks- its legacy being that it had consolidated more small schools into one 1-12 school than any school in the nation. She is survived by her son, Calvin C. Wood, Jr and wife Gayle of Towson , MD, daughter-in-law Sandy Rodrigues-Wood and granddaughter Adyn Wood, both of CA, brother Auburn Strickland of Kernersville, NC, and many loved nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, John Anthony (Andy) Wood; sisters, Thora, Ora, and Edna and brothers, Wilbert, Emory, Leamon, Randall, Raeford, Norman, Reid, and Oliver Strickland.
