Hildred Ruffin Hutchins

Raleigh - How does one begin to define the graceful, unique, genuine person who was Hildred Ruffin Hutchins? Hildred died 11 July 2011 at Wake Med with her daughter and grand-daughter by her side. Born 8 January 1926 in Bailey, NC, the daughter of Lillie Mae Boykin and John William Ruffin. Hildred moved to Raleigh in 1943 to attend Kings BusinessCollege. While attending school she resided at 504 East Jones Street where she met the love of her life, William Spurgeon Hutchins. Married 21 April 1945, Hildred and Bill celebrated 66 years of marriage. A more empathic, passionate, loving, devout Christian will never be found. Hildred attended TempleBaptistChurch where she taught Sunday school and played the piano. She worked for CP&L for 43 years, retiring in 1986. She was active in garden clubs statewide and a long-time resident of Oakwood who was thrilled at the preservation efforts of the community. An active Republican, running for county commissioner in 2000, she served as precinct chairman and election judge in the Woodcrest and Oakwood precincts. Hildred is survived by her husband Bill, daughter, Patricia Brglez (Boris), son Billy and grand-daughters April Lee Hutchins and Chloe Lynaura Brglez, brothers Billy (Carolyn), Bobby (Peggy) and David (Annie) Ruffin, as well as her cat Sassy and dog Chesney. The family would like to thank her caregivers Felicia Ballentine and Pam Fletcher, who enriched her life greatly with their kindness and care. Hildred had special friends, Marguerite Fields Cox of Cary, her college room mate and life-long soul mate and Judy and Pat Simmons. The family will receive friends at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Raleigh on Thursday, July 14 from 7:00 until 9:00 pm. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 2:00 pm, Friday July 15 with a graveside service at OakwoodCemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors, a support organization for service members and their families or any organizations formed to defeat the current presidential administration.
