Honoree Pierce Butler, 95, a native of Holly Springs, died Thursday. She was the daughter of George Lattie Pierce and Lavinia Chaffin Burnes Pierce. A 1934 graduate of Holly Springs, she was the valedictorian of her class. In 1938, she graduated from NCSU where she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi. Mrs. Butler served as a 7th and 8th grade English teacher in Garner, Grantham, Warsaw and Kenansville for over 30 years. She was a long time member of Garner United Methodis tChurch, The GarnerWomans Club, The DAR and a charter member of The Clara Craven Book Club. Her love of cooking and entertaining will long be remembered. She touched the lives of many during her lifetime. Honoree loved her family, her students, and everyone. She supported Boy Scouts, 4-H Clubs, MYF, Band Boosters and many other organizations. She was the best Mother anyone could have ask for and will be terribly missed.Surviving sons, George Butler and his wife, Harriet McRae of Nashville, TN and David Butler of Garner; sister, Violet P. Reynolds of Vero Beach, FL; grandchildren, Laura Butler Nichols (Hunt), John Butler and David Butler: great grandchildren, Abigail Nichols, Lillian Nichols, Hunt Nichols and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Bruce Butler and 6 sisters and brothers.Funeral Service will be 2:30 PM Sunday at Garner United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Catawba Springs Christian Church Cemetery.
