Hope Vaughan Shelden

d. August 11, 2014

Raleigh - Mrs. Hope Vaughan Shelden went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 11, 2014, at the age of 90. Hope and faith in her Lord Jesus was her statement in life. She was a humble and self-sacrificing woman who dedicated her life to her husband and three sons. Hope was raised on a small farm in Florala, AL with five brothers and two sisters. She attended Florida State College for Women before it became FSU. As a young woman she was employed at Eglin Air Force Base charting bombing runs for the pilots-in-training. There she met her soon-to-be husband, Howard Shelden. He was training to be a fighter pilot in WWII-Germany. Hope and Howard were married on the same day he received his wings.Hope spent her life loving and serving Howard and their three sons. She felt blessed to enjoy four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Left to cherish her memories are her sons, Ken (Ann), Ben (Janice) and Rob (Louise); grandchildren, Wade Shelden (Lisa), Wendy Giglio (Rick), Anna Shelden and Matthew Shelden; and her great- grandchildren, Jack and Katie Giglio, and Avery and Levi Shelden. The family would like to thank the staff at Sunrise of North Hills Reminiscence Care Center, Falls River Memory Care, Doctors Making House Calls, especially Dr. Lalita Sidana, and Transitions Life Care of Wake County for the professional care and concern for our Mom and Mam-Ma over the last 10 years of her life. She was blessed during this time to only see the good in those around her.A graveside service will be held for both our Mother and Father in DeFuniak Springs, FL at a later date.
