RALEIGH – Howard “Spook” Snotherly, a devoted husband, father, brother and friend to many, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024.
Spook was born on November 8, 1958. He grew up and lived his entire life in Raleigh, NC. He spent his professional life as a nuclear mechanic at Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant. He married his wife of 39 years, Elizabeth, in 1985 and they were blessed with three sons. His family was always his priority.
Spook will always be remembered for his passion for yearly fishing trips with friends and his sons on Portsmouth Island, gardening, music, NC State Wolfpack, the Atlanta Braves and the Carolina Panthers. He was a dedicated coach at West Raleigh baseball for many years.
Spook was a man of his word and helped people he loved with selflessness and a huge heart. His commitment to Christ was an important aspect of his life. He attended Hope Community Church.
Spook is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Griffin Snotherly, sons John Boston Snotherly (Stephanie), Ross Allen Snotherly (Courtney), Ben Alexander Snotherly (Hayleigh) and three grandchildren, Easton, Luke and Grace. He is also survived by his brother, Bill Snotherly (Glenda), two nephews Will (Victoria), Josh (Sarah) and grandnieces Cora and Mabel. He was predeceased by his parents William and Dorothy Snotherly.
A graveside service will be held in the Mausoleum Chapel at Historic Oakwood Cemetery, 701 Oakwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27601 on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 10:00 AM.
