Hoyt Whitley Bunn

Garner- Hoyt Whitley Bunn, 82, died Tuesday in his home in Garner surrounded by his loving family. Born in Nash County, he was the oldest son of the late Junnie Floyd Bunn and Easter Belle Whitley Bunn. Hoyt was employed by Carolina Power and Light Company and worked in Raleigh and Garner. He retired from that company after 35 years of service. Hoyt was a member of the White Stone Masonic Lodge # 155 in Zebulon, NC. He was a member of the US Army serving in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Earlier in life, he was an avid fisherman and golfer. In later years, he was a lover of nature and enjoyed the many beautiful flowers he grew that surrounded his home. Hoyt also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, the country he loved. He was devoted to his family and his church, Hillcrest Baptist Church. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Garner. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. He is survived by his loyal and faithful wife of 39 years, Mary Hodges Bunn; children, Michele Smith and husband, Bryan, Leigh Beaver and husband, Kevin, Allen Barnes and wife, Jeanne; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sylvia Watkins and husband, Chester (Buddy); Gale Wilkes and husband, David, Elaine ODay and husband, Dennis; brother, Danny Bunn and wife, Loretta Faye. Hoyt was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Barnes and his father and mother-in-law, Roland and Dorothy Hodges. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8:00 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Laurels of Forest Glen and Transitions LifeCare (Hospice of Wake Co.) for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Transitions LifeCare (Hospice of Wake Co.), 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 3800 Hillcrest Drive, Raleigh, NC 27610.
