On January 8,1930 in Vance County, NC the world was blessed with Hubert Curtis Abbott, Sr., a man whose life would be a testament to resilience, love and generosity. He departed from this life on November 9, 2024 in Raleigh, NC after 94 years of incredible and cherished memories.

Dads early years were marked by adversity, courage and perseverance when he bravely battled and overcame Polio at the age of 5 years old. He carried this tenacity forward, attending trade school in Chicago to learn electric motor repair, which later blossomed into a successful business he was passionate about. His professional endeavors were more than a livelihood; they were an extension of his inventive & industrious spirit.

Yet, at the heart of his legacy was his family who admired and adored him. His three children, Hubert Curtis Abbott, Jr.; Karen Abbott Bryant and Carol Ann Abbott. His 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; each of them a precious testament to the love he showed throughout his life. He was a man of great wisdom. His candid nature, and of course that smile of his that could light up the entire room. And oh, that quick wit! As he grew older, he certainly had no filter and spoke his truth, often catching us off guard and leaving us in stitches. Dad was indeed our rock, a foundation sturdy enough for us to lean on, always. His family came first, and he lived that truth wholeheartedly. He was a kind man, even as he aged and didn't hold back his thoughts. There was a profound sincerity in the way he lived his life, unapologetically honest and genuinely loving.

Though his parents preceded him in death, he carried their dreams and values with him, enriching the lives of those he met. He was one of 21 children - 17 preceded him in death and now only 3 remain.

As we reflect on his life, we find comfort in the many memories he leaves behind and the many ways he taught us to live with grace, humor and an open heart. Dad was, without a doubt, a great man who will be immensely missed, and his spirit will continue to guide us in the days to come.
