Irene Godwin Finch

MARCH 14, 1926 - NOV. 28, 2011 RALEIGH - Irene Godwin Finch of Raleigh passed away on Monday, November 28 at The Covington on Duraleigh Road, Raleigh. Mrs. Finch (Nana) was born in Wake County in 1926. She was a gracious mother and grandmother who loved her family. For many years she owned and operated Finchs Nursery in south Raleigh where she cared for two generations of children. For the last few years she has lived at Lawndale Manor in Garner and then The Covington. She is remembered as a kind and generous woman who unselfishly helped many in her family as well as a host of others over the years. The funeral service will be 11:00 am Wednesday, November 30 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Garner. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh. Mrs. Finch was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Q. Finch and her five brothers and two sisters. She is survived by three sons and their wives, Charles Curtis Finch and Debbie D. Finch of Raleigh and Emerald Isle, Stephen Craig Finch and Robin D. Finch of Emerald Isle and Raleigh, and Ronald Bruce Finch and Debbie M. Finch of Garner. She is also survived by six grandchildren and their spouses; Kristie F. Rich and husband T. G.; Kelley F. Maroules and husband Mike, B. Craig Finch and wife Ellen and his mother Barbara Finch, Brigette F. Dunlap and husband Jason, Jonathan D. Finch and wife Grace, and Leanne F. Lee and husband Michael. In addition Nana Finchs twelve great-grandchildren are: Sierra, Miller, Jackson, Bennett, Zachary, Brenna, Maddox, Raegan, Jennings, Cate Calloway, Ethan and Colin. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, November 29, from 7-9:00 PM at the Bryan-Lee Funeral Home on Highway 50 in Garner. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at The Covington and at Liberty Hospice.
