Iris Hobgood Turner

CARY-Iris Hobgood Turner, 87, of Cary, NC died on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Having been in declining health for several years, our steel magnolia faced each day with strength and grace. Born in Wake Forest, NC to Pauline and Bernice Hobgood, Iris graduated from Wake Forest High School and continued her education at Wake Forest College, now Wake Forest University. Upon college, Iris worked in the banking industry for several years in Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina. She enjoyed music, bridge, reading, all sports, and the beautiful yard in her favorite time of the year spring, with the gorgeous azaleas, dogwood trees, rhododendron, and tiny goldfinches. Most of all, Iris loved being with her family. Iris was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Hugh A. Turner Jr. She is survived by two children Susan Elaine Turner (Rich) of Raleigh, NC and James Andrew Turner (Gina) of Wilmington, NC. Iris was a wonderful and caring grandmother to her precious four grandchildren whom she adored : Zach Turner of Charlotte, NC, Whitley Turner of Wilmington, NC, Emily Turner of Wilmington, NC and Ben Turner of Jacksonville, Florida. Preceding Iris in death were her parents and three sisters; Mildred Staton, Jane Bland and Joyce Winders and one brother Bernice Hobgood. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to her loving friends Kitty Attwood, Marie Eshleman, Marilyn Clayton and Janet Crowder. They will be forever grateful for her special caregivers Angie Bridges, Janet Crowder, Jeanette Lee, Janet Lively, Marcelle Riley and Jean Walden. The family will receive friends at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, NC on Sunday, May 3, from 6:00pm – 7:30pm. A private burial service will be held in Wake Forest, NC.
