Iris Motley

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that former Garner Police Officer Iris Motley was killed in a vehicle accident this morning on Hwy 70 at Jessup Drive. Iris was the first full time female officer hired by the Garner Police Department and the first female officer retiree. Iris retired in 1999 having served as a Patrol Officer, Crime Prevention Officer, and as a DARE officer for Creech Road and Vance elementary schools. She was well known throughout the state of North Carolina for the annual Crime Prevention Fair that was held at Forest Hills Shopping Center each year. She was also one of our initial Challenge Camp program coordinators in 1994 when the camp was first held. She also had a positive impact on hundreds of kids as she taught the D.A.R.E. program. Iris was preceded in death by her former spouse and the father of her children Herbert Motley. Iris is survived by her daughters; Debbie Lancaster and husband Ken, Tammy Motley and Kaye Brady; son, Wayne Motley and wife Carla; 8 grandchildren Kyle Brady and wife Kayla, Jennifer Brady, Scott Brady, Iris Gates Motley, Maddi Motley, Jacob Motley and wife Katie, Journey Lancaster and Melina Skye Lancaster and 3- great-grandchildren, Hayley Brady, Jameson Brady and Maddie Sue Motley. A Memorial Service will be held at The Capital Church on Hwy. 70 in Garner at 11:00 AM Wednesday December 16, 2020. Once the service is confirmed please wear a face covering and follow social distancing guidelines. Special contributions- “I request no flowers. Instead please bring food for the Food Pantry. I would love to see the front of the church filled with a lot of food. Flowers die, hunger does not”. Iris K. Motley
