Ivan David McDonald, 92, passed away September 5,2023 with immediate family able to be by his side.
Ivan was born in Richmond County to Lillie Mae and Hosea McDonald. After graduation from Hoffman High, he attended college in Chicago. He served in the US Marines and returned home to begin a 36-year career with Southern Bell and retired as a Division Level Executive in Greensboro, N.C. Many memories with co-workers and friends and family. He is remembered for his sense of humor, being a loving father, husband, grandfather, and great grandfather. He had a heart of gold. The self-proclaimed ...."Ivan the Terrible" in his humor to others.
He is survived by his wife, Zelota of Raleigh, his daughter Kaycee Kaye McDonald Murdaugh (Bryan) and four grandchildren, Misti Alexander (Jay), Michael McDonald, Robert Vaughn II, Brittany Murdaugh (Matt), and 9 great children, Ashland, Dakotah, Aaron, twins Laney and Ryland, Maddie, Kayden, Lilly, Bryanna. Special nephews Steve and Danny who became so close over the years.
Ivan is predeceased by his parents, all his brothers and sisters, first wife, Jean, (mother of his children), sons, David and Troy. Second wife, Phyllis, two grandchildren Ashley and Bryan Murdaugh II.
Funeral services will be a graveside service only at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greensboro, N.C. Monday Sept.11, at 11am with Rev. Don Burns of Markus United Methodist Church of Jackson Springs officiating, (generations of family members).
