James Thurman Thompson, 84, passed away Saturday surrounded by his loving family. A native of Johnston County, he is the son of the late L.T. and Elena Allen Thompson. A US Army veteran, he was the founder of Thompson Cabinet Shop and several other entrepreneurial endeavors. As a business man Thurman was a dreamer, a doer, and a visionary. As a family man he was loyal, kind, and Loving. As a Christian he demonstrated an unwavering faith and a commitment to Jesus Christ. There are no words to describe what “papa” meant to his family. We will fondly reflect on all the wisdom and love that he shared with us each and every day. We will miss him so much but there is comfort in the fact that he is now at peace. Funeral service will be Monday at 2:00 pm at Fellowship Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Lois Thompson; son, Jimmy Thompson and wife, Kim of Garner; sisters, Shirley Byrd of Benson, Jean Thompson, Rose Whitley, both of Smithfield; brother, Jerry Wayne Thompson of Raleigh; grandchildren, Kourtney T. Landen and husband, Jay of Wilmington, Jack Thompson of Raleigh; great grand-daughter Kaylee Elise Landen. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was predeceased by his sister, Grace Dowdy; brothers, Durwood and Ray Thompson. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Sunday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.
