December 25, 1944 — August 20, 2018

GARNER – Jack Carter Austin, 73, passed away Monday, August 20, 2018 of Glioblastoma 4. Jack was born in Coles Co., Illinois on December 25, 1944 to the late William Raymond “Jack” Austin and Rachel Emma Austin. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 2100 Buffaloe Rd., Garner, NC 27529. In memory of Jack’s love for NC State University, those attending the service are asked to wear their NC State/red gear and jeans. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. Jack grew up loving the outdoors. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. After obtaining a degree from NCSU, he returned to his first love of cars and was an auto mechanic for over 40 years. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Alice Austin; daughter, Rachel Dargan (Jeff) of Raleigh; son, Travis Austin of Raleigh; granddaughters, Emma, Abigail and Olivia Dargan, all of Raleigh; sister, Barbara Frizzell (Jason) of Winter Springs, FL; niece, Darby Gracey (Josh) of Atlanta, GA; and his dog, Mitch. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA of Wake County, 200 Petfinder Lane Raleigh, NC 27603 in Jack’s memory.
