GARNER – Jackie Leroy Flanagan, 70, passed away Thursday, February 25 at his home in Clayton, NC. Friends and family knew him as Jack. He was affectionately called “Pops” by his children. Jack was born on August 5, 1950 in Pontiac, MI to William Steven Flanagan and Peggy Joyce Kirk Flanagan. He grew up in Lake Orion, MI and graduated from Lake Orion High School in 1969. He joined the US Air Force shortly after graduating and was stationed for some time in Germany before returning to the US. After 8 years in the Air Force, Jack worked for Daniel International Corporation, doing Quality Control NDE at several nuclear power plants throughout the United States, finally settling in Raleigh, NC working at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant. In 1987, Jack went to work for American Airlines at the Raleigh Durham International Airport, eventually relocating to the Miami International Airport in Miami, FL. After his retirement from American Airlines in 2012, he moved back to North Carolina to be close to his children and grandchildren. Jack enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Jack was also a huge NASCAR fan and enjoyed racing, hot rods, and motorsports. He was extremely interested in Custom and Classic cars and trucks. In his younger years, he spent many hours working on cars with his father and brothers. Mr. Flanagan is survived by his sons Jack Flanagan Jr. (Hilda) of Garner, Patrick Flanagan (Stacey) of Smithfield, and daughter Sally King (Aran) of Clayton, grandchildren Deven Turner (Ashely) of Benson, Anniston Flanagan, and Charlotte Flanagan of Smithfield, and Graham King of Clayton, great-grandchildren Josiah Turner, and Wynona Turner of Benson. In addition he is survived by his sister Karen Campagiorni, and brothers Steve Flanagan, Jeff Flanagan, and Rod Flanagan, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. No services are planned, however, there will be an “Irish Wake” at a future date, according to the wishes of Mr. Flanagan.
