Jacob Daniel “Jd” Croom

Jacob Daniel Croom, 86, passed away on Sunday, January 15.  He was born in Kinston, NC on November 30, 1930.  Mr. Croom was preceded in death by his wife, Velma, in 2001, his parents, Major Lott Croom, Sr. and Eliza Heffinger  Croom ,  sisters, Lois Cooke and Delia Crowder, and brothers, Billy, Walter, Allen,  ML, and Albert. JD was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Raleigh where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.   He graduated from Campbell University and retired from NC DOT Highway Department. He is survived by nieces and nephews:  Rose Piner (Tad) of Wilson;  Lt Col Albert  ‘Andy’  Croom(Susan), USAF,  Harry Ray Croom, Sam Croom(Janice) all of Kinston, NC;  Gary Croom(Elizabeth) of Aiken, SC;  Capt Jim Croom(Vicky), USN,  of Madison, AL; Billy Crowder of  Memphis, NY;  Betty Owens of Hampton VA;  Dr. Marcus Cooke of Chapel Hill; Jeff Key  of Manassas VA; and special caregivers Susan Speight of Black Creek, NC, and Shirley Edwards of Elm City, NC. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 17, at 2 PM at Temple Baptist Church.  Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 12:45 until 1:45 PM.
