Jacquelyn Nordan Davis

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7). Jacquelyn (“Jack” to her family, and “Jackie” to her friends) Nordan Davis, 89, of Raleigh, died on Monday, January 10, 2022. Jack was born on June 9, 1932, the seventh child of Ernest and Mamie Nordan. She graduated from Hugh Morson High School in 1950. On March 31, 1951, she married Paul Davis. She and Paul were active in their church, where she taught the Junior Girls’ Class and Children’s Church for over 20 years. They were charter members of Charity Free Will Baptist Church. Their deep love for one another sustained their marriage and family for 58 years until Paul’s death in 2009. Jack loved numbers and was a bookkeeper for the Employment Security Commission from 1962 until she retired in 2002. Jack’s life revolved around family, faith, and friends. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, and aunt. She had the gift of making everyone around her feel welcome, and she enjoyed a big crowd of people, especially at Thanksgiving and on birthdays. Her hobbies were collecting gnomes, nativity sets, and figurines. She loved solving Sudoku puzzles and putting together jigsaw puzzles. Jack’s favorite Bible verse was Psalm 118:24--“This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters Rebecca Hicks and Nancy Alexander; her sons-in law, Jim Hicks and Kelly Alexander; her grandchildren, Stephanie Coggins (husband Russell), Todd Hicks, and Katie Alexander; and her great-grandchildren, William and Sophie Coggins; and Jackson, AJ, and Lillie Hicks. The family will hold a private service at Oakwood mausoleum, which does not allow fresh flowers.
