RALEIGH - James Philip Archer, age 73, of Raleigh, North Carolina went home to live with the Lord on April 5, 2025, at Transitions LifeCare Hospice Home in Raleigh.
He was preceded in death by his bride and best friend of 26 years, Sandra Jones Archer; brother, Robert William Archer; and his parents, James Wilson and Sarah Mott Archer.
Surviving family members include his brother, Charles Samuel Archer (Patricia) of Kenbridge, VA; step-daughters, Laura K. Bland (James) of Winston-Salem, NC and Lee Ann Kennedy of Raleigh, NC; and his step-grandchildren, James Earl Bland, III and Olivia Thornton Bland.
"JP" as he was affectionately known, was born on February 20, 1952, and raised in Mooresville, NC. He graduated from Mooresville High School in 1970 where he was a starting member of all sports teams. He then attended NC State University, graduating with Honors in Mechanical Engineering in 1974. JP, along with his twin brother, Bill, earned their Eagle Boy Scout rank while members of St. Mark's Lutheran Troop #162 in Mooresville.
Upon graduation, JP joined JD Barger Construction Co. of Statesville, NC building poultry houses in Iran. Upon returning to the US, he worked for JD Beam Construction in Raleigh and Hilton Head. After completion of the Beam projects he joined Carneal Downey Construction, building bank branch offices. JP was licensed as a Chief Estimator and Project Manager in over 30 states. After a short stint with Callahan Construction, JP left to start his own independent contracting company working small construction projects in Wake and Durham Counties.
JP was a man of many talents, who often enjoyed time spent with friends, especially while trout fishing and hunting. His wood-working talents were superb, and he was well known for growing beautiful roses which he shared with others.
His passion was witnessing to others about a life centered on Jesus Christ. JP was devoted to Bible studies at Bible Study Fellowship, Finding Purpose, his Holy Trinity Community Group, and especially at Friday Morning Fellowship, which is a Christian Men's Bible Study. He made many friends there and elsewhere.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Raleigh. Private interment will occur at White Memorial Presbyterian Church Columbarium Garden at a later date.
