James Benton Hollingsworth

James “Jim” Hollingsworth passed away on 11-8-19 at Hillcrest Rehabilitation Center. A visitation will be held at Bryan-Lee funeral Home on Wake Forest Road In Raleigh, on Thursday the 14th from 6 to 8 pm. The funeral service will be on Friday, November 15 th at 2 pm, at Forest Hills Baptist Church, on Dixie Trail in Raleigh. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, and the American Cancer Society. His parents were Robert and Margaret Hollingsworth of Raleigh. He is survived by his wife, Janice Jones Hollingsworth, his son, Matthew Joel Hollingsworth, his daughter in-law, Lisa Hollingsworth, his granddaughter, Victoria Taylor Hollingsworth Jones, and a great granddaughter, Piper Jones. Jim was born 10-3-42 in Raleigh. He attended Broughton High School. He attended Forest Hills Baptist Church, of which his parents, Margaret and Robert Hollingsworth, were founding members.He attended Campbell University, and NCSU. He served his country in the Navy for six years. He was on an aircraft carrier, The USS Coral Seas. He worked at Aeroglide, Nationwide Homes, Lexington Homes, and for Baker Perkins. He then went into partnership with Harry White and formed “ Hollingsworth and White “ builders. They built premiere homes in Raleigh, and were distinguished in their craftsmanship. Jim retired in 2006. He enjoyed restoring a boat, boating, and sports cars. He was an avid long time member of the Hurricane Region Porsche Club of America. He was also a member of the MG club in Raleigh. His cars were all kept pristine, and admired by all. He was a member of the Raleigh Sports Club. His friendliness, kindness, and calm demeanor was known by all. Janice was the love of his life and they were married for 43 years. He was so proud of his son, Matt Hollingsworth, who followed in his footsteps as a general contractor. Jim will be missed by all his friends and family.
