James Byers, of Garner, N.C. went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 17. He is survived by his wife Rebecca, whom he adored, and two sons, Zachary and Adam, who were the pride of his life. He spent the better part of the last 32 years in Wake County where he excelled in business as a restaurant and convenience store manager before going to work in home audio and video. An exception to this time was the two years he spent in Edenton, N.C. where he met Rebecca in 1991. They would grow together in love over 22 years and she would become his strongest advocate, his most passionate encourager and a tireless caregiver throughout this difficult journey. James had a passion for N.C. State Wolfpack Sports, Steelers Football, Pirates Baseball and anything to do with water, including any beach or pool. He also loved playing baseball and more recently coaching and teaching his son Adam. His love for racing and cars was shared with son Zachary, who currently excels in the automotive service field. His surfing and skateboarding skills declined only slightly with age, and he loved sharing this affection with his boys and niece Stephanie. James was also quick to share his newfound faith in Jesus Christ during his twenty-five month courageous battle with cancer. Friends and family bore witness to his countless references to God and His faithfulness in the daily battle. Born again by the grace of Christ, James is now healed in the presence of the Lord. James was loved by and was a member of St Barnabas Presbyterian Church of Raleigh. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 PM at St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church, Raleigh. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner He is also survived by his loving mother, LouAnn Byers of Raleigh, his father Don Byers of Raleigh, his brother and best friend Steve Byers of Raleigh, and nieces Kelly, Stephanie and Audrey Byers. Rebecca would like to thank the hundreds of friends and family who have prayed for and supported James and the family during this battle. In particular Dr. Hurwitz and his staff at Duke University Medical Center, Dr. Stephen Kearney, Paul Brown, Cindy Siefer, Mark Craver and family, The Bucket List Foundation, Heather Hills Pool members, Garner Baseball Incorporated, St Barnabas Church, the staff at Angie’s Restaurant and all his friends from the Grocery Boy Jr. In lieu of flowers, James requested that donations be sent to Garner Baseball Inc and Garner High school baseball.
