GARNER - Dr. James Mack, 79, died Friday at Rex Healthcare. He was born in New York, NY to James and Lenore Mack. After graduating from the University of Buffalo, he received a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Columbia Pacific University and was a licensed hypnotist. He was resident psychologist at Rikers Island Prison and was employed by the NYC Board of Ed as a clinical psychologist. He received numerous awards which included a Citation of Merit from the Bronx Borough president, for 24 yrs. of working with special needs children, a Certificate of Appreciation for many years of dedicated service and an Achievement Award from the 19th Congressional Dist. for outstanding and invaluable service to the community.He was both a deacon and elder at The First Presbyterian Church of Garner and actively involved in the childrens ministry.He received the Man of the Year award and served as president of the Men of the Church.He is survived by his wife of 47yrs., Catherine B. Mack; daughter, Jeanne Louise Mack-Shinn and husband, Steven of Deltona, FL; son, Stephen Mack and wife, Suckenaof Maspeth, NY; grandchildren; Riley and Lila Shinn, Skye Young, Sydney, Sterling and Symphony Mack; nieces, Sharon Kress, Ellen and Amy Shiff and nephew, Authur Shiff.A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Wed., April 11th at First Presbyterian Church of Garner. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Smile Train, P. O.
