December 27, 1922 - October 24, 2011 James E. Snakenberg, Sr., 88, of Clayton and former longtime Raleigh resident died Monday. He was born in Wake County to the late Willie Wade Snakenberg, Sr. and Lucy Cheatam Holden Snakenberg. James was a clerk with the US Postal Service for 33 years and a veteran of the US Navy serving his country during WWII. He was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church and Hiram Masonic Lodge #40. He was preceded in death by his first wife Virginia Saunders Snakenberg in 1989. He is survived by his wife Lucy Moore Snakenberg of Clayton; son, James E. Snakenberg, Jr. of Oak Island; daughter, Virginia Kaye Scarboro of Raleigh; step sons, Don Moore and Sam Moore; step daughter, Emily Moore Hill; 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 1:00PM Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011 in the chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest, Raleigh. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Moriah Baptist Church, 3000 East Garner Road, Raleigh, NC 27610.
