Raleigh - James Fontaine Allen died on May 15, 2013 after a long period of declining health. James was the only child of Fontaine and Louisa King Allen of Clayton, N.C. He attended Mars Hill College and graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in Forestry. After graduation, he worked briefly with U.S. Plywood in Orangeburg, S.C. James served in the United States Army during the Korean War. When he returned from service, he began his long career with Northwestern Insurance Company/ Unigard. He then worked with Harleysville Mutual Insurance Company until his retirement in 1994. In Raleigh, James was a member of Saint Giles Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. James was a long time member of the N.C. State Wolfpack Club. James is survived by his wife, Jane M. Allen and his sons, James F. Allen, Jr and partner Timothy E. Locklear of Wake Forest, N.C.; John L. Allen and wife Shannon of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Also surviving is a niece, Janet A. Raab and husband Carl Raab with daughter Emily Small of Raleigh, N.C. The family wishes to thank the staff of Mayview Convalescent Center for their kind and thoughtful care during the recent weeks. A memorial service will be held Monday, May 20, 2013 at 2:00PM in the Chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Food Bank of Eastern and Central North Carolina, 3808 Tarheel Drive, Raleigh, N.C. 27609; or to the Salvation Army, 215 South Person Street, Raleigh, N.C. 27601
