James was preceded by his mother and father, Hettie Maebelle Carroll Gulley and James Grover Gulley of Garner, NC. James is survived by the love of his life, Donna Stallings, his three wonderful sons - Chris, Nicholas and Remington; his three beautiful grandchildren – Miles Gulley (6), Hart Adamo (3) and Vivienne Gulley (1); Johnna Adamo, who was like a daughter and Brittney Price, fiancé to his son, Remington. James is also survived by three sisters – Amanda Carroll, Frances Liles and Cindy Johnson and he has three nieces and five nephews. His cat, Sassy, will also miss her daytime buddy. James retired from the City of Raleigh, after 25 years of service to Parks and Recreation, where he helped build and supervise the city’s beloved Greenway Trails. James loved to be outdoors and had pride in his country and community. He was a member of the McCullers Ruritan club and cooked annually for The Military Appreciation Day in Morehead City, NC. James especially loved working at the N.C. State Fair every year, picking the flower gate as his post and after retirement became an active volunteer. James was a great friend and neighbor to many in the community, making sure to check in on everyone, whether that was a short phone call or a drive by visit. James will be remembered as a loving partner, father and Papa. Visitation will be held Monday, May 23, 2022 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at Mt.
